What's new in this week in the library and what I'm reading now.

It's a new year and we've all slept a bit over the long three week break. That means we need to review library expectations and well as find out what's happening next in the library. Over the next three weeks, students will be hearing about what awesomeness to expect for this spring semester.

Here is what February has in store for our school library:

*Library Lunch Bunch - Each week, one of our four lunch blocks (block will rotate weekly) will have the opportunity to enjoy their lunch in the library as we talk about what books we are reading, watch author interviews and book trailers, and give input on how to make our library even better. All teachers will have passes for a limited number of students who are interested in attending.

*Love Your Library month - During the previous two school years, we have had a birthday book club where parents could go online to purchase a book for our library in honor of their child. It was a successful program but I found that many parents were never even aware of the program. This year, instead of the birthday book club, we will have a Love Your Library month. During the entire month of February, family, friends, companies... anyone will be able to go online and purchase books for our library in honor of our students. The books will come to us with bookplates inside showing who the books are honoring. I will take pictures of the students with their books and display the pictures in the hallway outside of the library. The students that have had books purchased in their honor will be the first ones to check those books out.

I'm excited to see how this goes and hope we are able to add many new titles to our collection. The direct link to this program is https://MackinFunds.com/fundraiser?code=1ab4

*Maker Morning on Wednesdays - The library is open before school every morning except Thursdays for students return and/or check out books. Other activities take place in the library each morning as well: Mondays - Kindness Crew

Tuesdays - Library Leaders

Wednesdays - Maker Morning (new in February)

Fridays - Game Day

Maker Mornings will be a time for students to come to the library to build, create, do random acts of kindness, and more. Activities will vary each week depending on what the students are interested in.

February is going to be a great month in our library. Follow Wilkerson Library Rocks on Instagram to keep up with the fun!

I am currently reading (with my eyes):

UnSelfie: Why Empathetic Kids Succeed in Our All-About-Me World

I am currently listening to (or reading with my ears) two different books:

Gratitude Daily: 21 Days to More Joy and Less Stress

by

Amal Unbound

I just finished reading:

Jacky Ha-Ha (1st in series)

by

I love this book! It is about a girl that has taken on the role of class clown so that people will laugh with her and not at her. She is self-conscious about her stutter so she tries very hard to make people laugh instead of making them fun of her speech. Jacky just doesn't know how far is too far and seems to be in trouble all of the time... until someone enters her life and offers a wonderful new perspective. She also has a lot of things going on in her life that are very hard to navigate alone. This is a great book for boys AND girls and I'd say 5th grade and up is perfect.
